Welcome to Arbor Chess. Here is our story!

In the fall of 1997, Ray Garrison, our CEO, purchased a chess store on Main Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan “Chess Express”. He also taught in public and private schools where he successfully led many chess programs to team win in state championships.

He sold the store eventually and then Arbor Chess was a full time business where in addition to school chess programs and private instruction, Ray expanded his staff and classes and offered highly successful summer day camps program for over 20 years.

In the past year, Arbor Chess has transitioned to 100% virtual chess classes, lessons and camps and continued to have had wonderful success and rave reviews by the children and their parents.

Our secret is that every instructor teaching chess is an excellent teacher first, providing students with the best experience possible.  As we grow throughout the U.S., we all look forward to sharing our passions for chess and thinking games with a new generation.
